New Painting at the Hilton Garden Inn
Some dreams do come true! I am ecstatic to share that I have a piece of artwork exhibiting at the Hilton Garden Inn. It has been a dream to have my art in a hotel. My family grew up in the hotel business, and I have seen many different types of art in this type of space, dreaming that one day, mine will be up there too. And here we are!
Rustic Sphinx | 26×40 inches
Rustic Sphinx magnifies a hawkmoth to capture the beauty of being wonderstruck. These awe-inspiring moments are unexpected gifts, often overlooked. In today’s busy way of life, capturing a glimpse of a moth requires us to pause and recalibrate our attention. By expanding this little beauty to a large scale, this piece invites viewers to slow down, redirecting our attention toward the expansion of wonder, beauty and hope. Never stop looking.
Rustic Sphinx would look fabulous on a large vertical wall like a stairwell or entryway. It compliments warm neutral furniture tones and balances pops of deep earthy colors.
The inspiration of this piece came as soon as I spotted a little moth above my front door. I had just finished a run. The kind of run that you do to vent and reset. It was a body cleanse. When I returned, I saw it. Right there. Above the front door only because I took a moment to look up.. A sign? Maybe, maybe not. But I was definitely affected by this tiny black and white moth in some huge way, and inspired to paint it.
The process involved fluid acrylic and India ink to brush earthy chocolate tones and black/white zig zag patterns of the moth. This natural flow but with intentional purpose of paint is set against a backdrop of thick textured modeling paint. The entire painting is on a hand stretched raw canvas with custom sized stretcher bars. Rustic Sphinx is a delicate nature against a harsh world.
I hope you’ll stop by and visit this piece and the other talented local artists’ work on display!
